Running Wardrobe Technicians
We are currently recruiting for a Running Wardrobe Technician to join our Running Wardrobe team for this year's Festival & Autumn season
Assisting the Running Wardrobe Manager with the aims and objectives of the Running Wardrobe, you will participate in the efficient, effective delivery of the department’s requirements and day to day operations on site, on tour and at other venues and locations.
You will perform tasks associated with production preparation, show running and post production activities. Maintaining, adjusting/repairing, laundering and cleaning costumes and accessories for rehearsals and performances.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist the Running Wardrobe Manager /Deputy Running Wardrobe Manager with aspects of the preparation of costumes for rehearsals and performances, working with external supervisors, in house coordinators and technical departments.
- Assist in maintenance, repairs, cleaning and laundry of costumes and accessories to a consistently high standard.
- Prepare, set and clear dressing rooms and backstage areas, dress artists and perform Quick Changes.
- Assist the Running Wardrobe Manager and Deputy Running Wardrobe Manager with daily changeovers
- Use existing templates to update performance related documentation ensuring accurate records are kept.
- Participate in get ins , get out’s and all related costume movements and manual handling.
- Use excellent industrial machine and hand sewing skills to maintain, repair and adjust period and modern costumes and accessories to a high standard.
- Assist the Running Wardrobe Manager in your usual capacity whilst on tour to different venues and in different locations.
- Support Glyndebourne’s costume activities and any other duties as required by the Head of Costume.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Qualification within the discipline or related industries to include Degree/ HND level qualification or equivalent relevant transferable skills and experience.
- Ability to follow direction and work to precise production related standards and objectives.
- Problem solving, flexible approach and positive attitude.
- Willing and able to work under pressure and extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Excellent time management and communication skills, both written and verbal to include IT literacy.
- Strong people skills with the ability to delegate and work within a team and under minimum supervision.
- You will be required to have in-depth knowledge of costume construction, fabrics and practical skills to maintain, adjust/repair costumes and accessories to a high standard using excellent machine and hand sewing skills.
- Excellent knowledge of fabrics types and laundry care with the ability to maintain costume to an exceptionally high standard.
- Understanding of the need for diplomacy and discretion with emphasis on safeguarding confidential information.
- A knowledge of Health and Safety practices in live theatre environments, undertaking all training as required and necessary to the performance of the role.
- Previous live theatre performance and /or touring experience in a similar role is essential.

Rates of pay, Hours and Benefits
Your hours of work will be a minimum of 39 hours per week however you may be required to work long shifts during the busier periods.
Overtime rates apply for any shifts longer than eight hours and Sunday working.
This is an hourly paid position and the current rate is £12.37 per hour, plus any agreed increase for 2025.
You will receive half a day’s paid holiday for each week worked (6.8 weeks holiday per annum pro rata inclusive of bank holidays).
