We are currently recruiting for a senior Lighting Technician to join us for the 2025 Festival
Working as a member of the Lighting team to deliver high quality technical services to productions at Glyndebourne and any other venue where the company may perform. This role will lead on programming lighting and special effects for productions, closely liaising with the Lead Senior Lighting Technician (Programmer) and Lighting Supervisors, but also cover other technical duties as required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To set up, programme and operate lighting consoles at an advanced level during production periods, rehearsals and performances
  • To work with and support Head of Lighting and Lighting Supervisors to realise the lighting designs either for a new production or a revival.
  • To provide ‘basic’ training to other Lighting Technicians who are engaged with programming, plotting and operating control platforms
  • When not engaged in programming, to take a leading role in other projects and instigate projects as required
  • To assume responsibility for daily checks of all lighting equipment in the rig and where necessary carrying out fault finding investigations, document and communicating any issues with the equipment
  • Prepare and update accurate show notes, cue sheets and other documentation as appropriate; including focus plotting using MLA and other software
  • To operate rehearsals, show changeovers and performances ensuring they are executed smoothly and to time.
  • To prioritise workloads in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Provide support to other departments in their use of and integration with lighting systems.
  • To maintain backstage areas to the highest standard, and work alongside others in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To work with an awareness of sustainability and environmental impact.
  • To work across 7 days including unsocial hours.
  • Any other duties as reasonably required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential
  • Extensive and demonstrable experience in a professional Theatre Lighting / Electrics department, ideally in a producing house or equivalent with proven experience in stage lighting.
  • Proven ability to operate and programme lighting control platforms to an advanced standard with automated fixtures.
  • An established background in the core skills relevant to the position, including programming on Eos family of consoles to an advanced level in a repertory environment
  • The ability to work closely with and be sensitive to the wishes of the Lighting Designer in order to achieve their desired aims. To be able to translate the Lighting Designer’s wishes with an artistic eye and deliver results with speed and accuracy
  • A sympathetic approach to creative concepts and the ability to realise the requirements of Lighting Designers, Designers and Directors.
  • Detailed knowledge of the use and maintenance of a range of lighting equipment and accessories, including low voltage equipment, LEDs, radio dimming and DMX controlled stage effects
  • An understanding of Sensor 3 dimming systems within a theatrical environment.
  • Experience programming multi universe productions utilising pixelmapping and OSC control
  • The ability to maintain a professional approach and behave diplomatically in a high stress environment
  • Experience working with networked audio, video and control systems.
  • Knowledge of safe rigging practices.
  • An awareness of health and safety within a theatrical environment.
  • Proficient in the use of Windows, Apple & Google computer systems.
  • Experience working with creative teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must work excellently alone or as part of a team.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • A genuine passion for theatre.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.
  • Training: Manual Handling, Working at Height, Manufacturer based training for consoles & playback systems.
Desirable
  • Experience in programming for theatrical productions in other disciplines, eg Qlab
    and media servers.
  • An awareness of large scale repertory theatre.
  • Experience fault finding complex systems.
  • Experience working with tracking systems.
  • A knowledge of network infrastructure.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Training: Electrical Safety, ABTT Silver Electrics, IPAF, PAT Testing.

Special Requirements

  • To travel, when required, on Glyndebourne business.

Hours of Work

The basic hours of work are 39 per week plus overtime. You will be required to work longer shifts over 6 days during the busiest periods. 

Rates of Pay and Benefits

The rate for this position is currently £14.58 per hour, plus any agreed increase for 2025.

Overtime rates will apply for any shift longer than 8 hours, a 6th day & Sunday working.

Over half a day’s paid holiday for each week worked (6.8 weeks holiday per annum pro rata inclusive of bank holidays).
