Production Manager

We have a vacancy for an experienced Production Manager to join our production team

We have a vacancy for an experienced Production Manager to join our production team to successfully oversee the design, construction and staging of sets for all Glyndebourne productions from concept delivery through to opening performance.

You will effectively manage and balance constraints of budget, time and technical practicability within a repertoire and touring environment. In collaboration, manage the Production Office team, ensuring that creative teams and in house technical departments are sufficiently resourced with information for the successful mounting and re staging of Glyndebourne productions. The position requires a flexible approach to the number of hours worked, and the need to travel.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with creative teams to realise their vision within stated parameters.
  • Assess the requirements of productions. Advise on feasibility and cost. Report, and take action with the appropriate teams.
  • Manage and update detailed scenery budgets for new productions and revivals. To include built in lighting, AV content and other effects. 
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed production information
  • Tender scenery, engineering and effects to suppliers for quotation
  • Appoint principal contractors and suppliers in consultation with the Technical and Production Director.
  • Liaise with Production Hub workshop supervisor to arrange in house workflow.
  • Source and order specialist materials for productions.
  • Convene and attend production meetings, fit ups, rehearsals and lighting sessions deemed necessary to fulfil the Production Management role.
  • Liaise effectively with all Technical HODs  and Production Staff throughout the production process.
  • Initiate and update production specific Risk Assessments in collaboration with all stakeholders, with reference to current Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Ensure, in collaboration with Production Assistants and Show Supervisors, that all systems and procedures are adequately documented, and that productions are appropriately archived with a view to revival, hire or tour.
  • Commission full stage photography of productions as required for archival and revival purposes.
  • Collaborate to manage the Production Office budget and participate in improving briefing procedures for designers, directors and external contractors.
  • Coordinating new production transport to the theatre
  • Consider environmental impact and sustainability at all stages of the production process and where applicable follow the guidelines and advice set out in The Theatre Greenbook for sustainable productions.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential
  • Proven track record in large scale production management
  • Previous experience within repertoire opera or theatre
  • Demonstrable detailed knowledge of scenic construction, materials and  finishes
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and drafting abilities
  • Excellent People Management and Leadership skills 
  • Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • Good logistics and project management skills
  • Effective resource management and budget management
  • Good computer skills in a range of software, including Microsoft Office/Google
  • High personal drive
  • Ability to work  within a diverse team in a pressurised environment.
  • Knowledge of touring logistics and challenges
  • Managing a competitive tender process and making a commercial contract
  • Extensive experience of managing Health and Safety in a production environment including creation of RAMS and application of CDM
Desirable
  • Clean driving licence
  • IOSH or NEBOSH H&S qualification
  • Industry recognised project management training
  • Experience of working with international creative teams

Salary and Benefits

We can offer a competitive salary. Salaries are reviewed annually on 1st January.

This is a full time position, the contractual hours of work are 39 per week, however you may be required to work additional hours to meet the demands of the role.

We offer 6.6 weeks/33 days holiday per year including public holidays.
