Front of House Supervisor

We are currently recruiting for Front of House Supervisors to join us for this year's Festival

We have a number of vacancies for Front of House Supervisors, on a seasonal contract, to enhance the experience we provide for customers during their visit to Glyndebourne.  

During the Summer Festival (May -August) and Autumn Season (October and December)  you must be available to work a minimum of two shifts of 6 to 7 hours, which can be between 11.00am and 11.00pm Monday to Sunday. There may be an opportunity to work longer shifts if preferred. 

This role plays a key part in advancing Glyndebourne’s mission to deliver outstanding customer service and exceed audience expectations throughout their visit. The Front of House Supervisor will lead a team across various areas of the site, including the car park, coach park, set-down area, and Lewes Station, ensuring smooth operations during performances and events. A strong background in customer service and excellent interpersonal skills are essential for success in this position.

It will also involve assisting the Head of Front of House with recruitment, training, rota management, timesheet data, customer service monitoring and performance management, 

This role requires working in all weather conditions and involves standing for extended periods. The Supervisor must be prepared to manage the Front of House team across various areas, ensuring smooth operations regardless of the weather or event demands.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Front of House (FOH) Assistants during events and performances, ensuring excellent service and consistent performance standards. Provide ongoing guidance, feedback, and supervision to maintain high service levels.
  • To deliver exceptional customer service, acting as a point of contact for customer concerns, and address complaints with professionalism, ensuring that the Duty Manager is informed as needed.
  • Ensure efficient car park and traffic management by maintaining smooth traffic flow, and addressing any issues promptly to enhance customer experience and safety.
  • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of new FOH Assistants, and collaborate in the development and delivery of training and induction programs.
  • Work with the Head of Front of House and Supervisor team to create and maintain a clear, up-to-date training manual outlining role-specific responsibilities.
  • Work alongside other supervisors to prepare and manage staff rotas for Festival and additional events.
  • Ensure accurate weekly timesheets are submitted for authorisation.
  • Assist the training of the team in emergency evacuation procedures, ensuring swift and efficient response in case of emergencies.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential
  • A full clean driving licence
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of project/rota planning 
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Highly organised and detailed approach to administration
  • Ability to problem solve and use own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise
  • Good IT skills
Desirable
  • First Aid training

Rates of Pay and Benefits

This is an hourly paid position, with any hours worked as Supervisor being paid at £14.00 per hour

In addition, we offer 6.6 weeks’ holiday inclusive of bank holidays per annum pro rata.
