We are looking for an experienced Duty Manager to join our team on a seasonal part-time contract. 
The Duty Manager is critical to the seamless operation across the site during performances and events, overseeing the Usher and Front of House Supervisors, as well as their teams within the auditorium and across all audience services. 
This role plays a key part in advancing Glyndebourne’s mission to deliver outstanding customer service and exceed audience expectations throughout their visit. The Duty Manager is responsible for maintaining safety standards while managing the day-to-day operations in a fast paced environment.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate a team of Supervisors, Ushers, and Front of House Assistants, ensuring exceptional customer service standards.
  • Oversee Front of House operations during performances and events, ensuring everything runs smoothly to deliver an exceptional audience experience.
  • Conduct daily briefings with Front of House and Usher teams to communicate key performance details and operational procedures.
  • Act as the main point of contact for customer concerns or complaints, addressing and resolving issues quickly and professionally.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety protocols, and make sure staff are well trained in emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and onboarding new Front of House staff.
  • Update timesheets, manage staff rotas, and monitor performance, providing feedback and support to ensure high standards.
  • Work with backstage and hospitality teams to ensure smooth communication and coordination.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

essential
  • Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role, ideally in customer service, hospitality, events, or the arts.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a focus on motivating and engaging teams.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire a team to deliver outstanding results.
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to make quick, effective decisions under pressure.
  • Organised and efficient, with excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Comfortable multitasking and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols, including emergency procedures and risk management.
  • Calm under pressure, with the ability to stay focused and deliver quality service in high-stress situations.
  • IT literacy (e.g. experience with scheduling software or MS Office).
Desirable
  • First Aid training or willingness to complete First Aid training.
  • Experience in the arts or entertainment industry.

Hours of Work 

This is a seasonal part-time position from April 2025 to December 2025.

We can offer part-time, flexible shifts including weekends and evenings.

You will need to be available to work two shifts per week during the Summer Festival (May – August) and Autumn Season (October and December) which can involve shifts between 11:00am and 11:00pm, Monday to Sunday. Due to the nature of the role, shift lengths can vary between 7-10 hours.

Rates of Pay & Benefits

This is an hourly paid position, with any hours worked as Duty Manager being paid at £18.00 per hour.

It may be possible to combine this role with the Usher/Front of House Supervisors role to earn extra hours.

In addition, we offer 33 days / 6.6 weeks holiday inclusive of bank holidays per annum pro rata.
