Chaperone

We currently have vacancies for Chaperones to join our Chaperone team for 2025

This is a freelance position, from 20th January 2025 – November 2025

Reporting to the Head Chaperone, your role will be to safeguard, support and promote the well being of children whilst they are taking part in any performance, rehearsal or activity.

Key responsibilities:

  • Check a suitable performance licence is in place for all children involved in performance, rehearsal or activity
  • Maintain constant supervision of children at all times from when they arrive until signed out to a parent/guardian or nominated adult
  • Being responsible for escorting and supervising children during rehearsals and performances, looking after the general wellbeing and safety of children
  • Assisting the Wardrobe department with costume changes, wigs and makeup
  • Supervising children in their dressing room
  • Remain in sight of the children under your supervision at all times
  • Ensure that no child is put at risk by actions of Glyndebourne staff
  • Keep accurate records in accordance with legal requirements of the performance licence and in line with company policy
  • Keep children’s personal information confidential and secure
  • Ensuring that children are understanding and considerate of the working environment and that their behaviour and conduct is appropriate
  • Understand and comply with relevant Glyndebourne policies – with particular emphasis on Safeguarding Children and Young Adults, and Health and Safety
  • Be aware of allergies and dietary requirements for all children under your supervision
  • Report accidents, near misses and safeguarding concerns to Head Chaperone, Health and Safety Coordinator or Designated Safeguarding Officer in accordance with policy
  • Co-operate with any Local Authority representative who may enter the premises for inspection purposes

Person Specification:

Essential requirements
  • Applicants must hold a current professional chaperone licence, and Enhanced DBS Check (ideally registered with the DBS Update Service)
  • Experience in chaperoning children in performance
  • Experience of safeguarding in an arts, charity or educational environment
  • Able to act on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Genuine interest in working with children in performing arts

Rate of Pay & Hours of Work

This is a freelance position. The rate of pay is £97 for a half day, and £144 for a full day.
