Glyndebourne Tour to go to Liverpool in 2019
In 2019 the Glyndebourne tour returns to Liverpool for the first time since the 1970s.
The Tour has a long association with the city having come to the Royal Court Theatre in the late 60s and early 70s. Festival productions were also staged in Liverpool in 1940, 1946 and 1956, at The Royal Court. The Empire Theatre, seating 2,350, is a larger space than the Royal Court and the biggest two-tier auditorium in the country. We anticipate it will be a spectacular venue in which to showcase Glyndebourne productions and a welcome opportunity to take the Tour to the north of the country. Glyndebourne will be working closely with Welsh National Opera, which already tours to the Empire Theatre, as well as The Ambassadors Theatre Group, to develop audiences for opera in the region.

Further changes to Glyndebourne Tour include plans to introduce Behind the Curtain, our popular audience insight evening that was inaugurated with Don Giovanni in 2016, as a regular, biennial feature on the Tour. In 2018 we will be going Behind the Curtain on Verdi’s La traviata.
There will be a further alteration in our touring schedule, with Plymouth leaving the roster in 2018. This means that next year the Tour will take in Glyndebourne, Canterbury, Norwich, Milton Keynes and Woking, with the addition of Liverpool in 2019.
In the summer it was confirmed that Glyndebourne will continue to receive an annual grant of £1,629,055 from Arts Council England to support its Touring and education work for the 2018-22 period.
