Free Youth Opera workshops
Glyndebourne Youth Opera provides local young people with engaging opera workshops open to all.
GYO1 (age 9 – 13 years)
We are excited to announce that a range of workshops and performance opportunities for singers aged 9-13 years old will be available to book over the coming months.
These workshops are for young people aged 9-13 years old in Sussex who are interested in singing and performing. The workshops are open to new and existing members of Glyndebourne Youth Opera and are a fantastic opportunity to get involved.
We will be exploring movement and acting inspired by Verdi’s comedy Falstaff. Led by Glyndebourne director and movement coach Denni Sayers, the session will help you learn techniques and enhance your performance skills ahead of auditions to perform in the opera this summer during Festival 2025. Please note, to be eligible to audition, you must have attended at least one GYO workshop.
Sunday 16 February
2 hour session (timings will be confirmed closer to the event)
The workshops will take place at Glyndebourne. Our address is:
Glyndebourne
New Road
Lewes
BN8 5UU
All sessions are FREE.
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.
GYO2 (age 14 – 19 years)
Members of GYO2 are currently working on our brand new community opera Uprising, written by composer Jonathan Dove and librettist April De Angelis. The opera looks at the climate emergency through the eyes of those whom it will affect the most – the young.
Taking place on the main stage at Glyndebourne, the adult and youth chorus will perform alongside six professional singers and musicians from the Glyndebourne Sinfonia. As a member of the chorus, performers will be learning music, acting and singing on stage in full costume.
There are currently no applications open for GYO2, please sign up to our mailing list below to be notified of upcoming opportunities.

Your chance to perform on the Glyndebourne stage
The workshops above could be your first step on a journey to Glyndebourne’s main stage! Later this year, we will be holding auditions for young people to be part of some upcoming performances at Glyndebourne.
Further details of auditions will be announced via email to the Glyndebourne Youth Opera mailing list – to be eligible to audition, you must have attended at least one GYO workshop.
These opportunities are open to all young people aged 9 to 19 living within 25 miles of Glyndebourne. You can also become a Glyndebourne Youth Opera member, membership is free and you can sign up here.
We promote equality, diversity and inclusion and actively encourage applications from those whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented in the world of opera.
Spaces will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority given to Glyndebourne Youth Opera members who have never attended a workshop before.
If you would like to be notified of other upcoming workshops, please sign up for our Glyndebourne Youth Opera mailing list below. If you have any queries about workshops, please do not hesitate to contact us at takepart@glyndebourne.com.
