Position: Dramaturg

He studied English and German language and literature, education theory and arts education in Frankfurt before joining Oper Frankfurt as dramaturg and subsequently working with Siemens Cultural Programme in Munich. He has worked for opera houses and festivals across Europe, including working on a number of productions with Pierre Audi and Willy Decker. Head of Dramaturgy at Dutch National Opera from 1990 to 2018, he has also directed and staged a number of projects. He has lectured in theatre studies at University of Amsterdam and taught at International Opera Studio Nederland, Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts and Académie du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. He has contributed to numerous books and journals, and published the collection Schwanenmärchen; a book about stage director Ruth Berghaus; and the first German biography of Dutch composer Leo Smit, Unerhörtes Talent. Today he is a freelance dramaturg, director and writer, and continues to teach at Dutch National Opera Academy. Taken from the Festival 2022 programme book.
