He began his career in theatre after graduating in Modern Literature from Scuola d’Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi in Milan. In addition to directing for numerous prestigious opera houses, he is also the author of innovative new works. In 2009 he won the prestigious Abbiati Prize for Best Initiative of the Year with Bianco Rosso e Verdi, produced by Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Founder of Reggio Emilia’s Opera Off, an experimental opera festival which includes performances, lessons, conferences and television projects, he was also Artistic Director of Sferisterio Opera Festival in Macerata, and is the current Artistic Director of Donizetti Opera Festival in Bergamo.
