World premiere

Uprising

28 February - 2 March 2025

Can one person make a difference? Horrified by the climate crisis, teenager Lola decides that she must fight for the future.

From acclaimed composer Jonathan Dove and writer April De Angelis, this new opera looks at the state of the world through the eyes of the young.

Featuring a cast of professionals and the Glyndebourne Sinfonia alongside Glyndebourne Youth Opera, a community chorus and young instrumentalists from Brighton & East Sussex Youth Orchestra and Brighton & Hove Percussion Ensemble.

Advisory information

Uprising is an opera which looks at the climate crisis through the eyes of the young. There are themes throughout the opera around political activism and inter generational tensions. Early in the opera, there are some scenes of social isolation and bullying.

There is a short scene which explores Electroconvulsive Therapy (electric shock therapy) and depicts a child being prepared for the possible treatment, which does not go ahead.
