Don Giovanni from the 2010 Festival will be broadcast on BBC2 on Christmas Eve at 2.45pm.  The programme will be available to watch via BBC iPlayer afterwards for a limited period of time.  For this 2010 production, the first new staging of the opera in 10 years, Glyndebourne welcome back the winning team of director Jonathan Kent and designer Paul Brown with Festival Music Director, Vladimir Jurowski conducting the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Highlights of the 2011 Glyndebourne Festival  The 2011 Glyndebourne Festival will open with the first ever staging here of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, directed by David McVicar and conducted by Music Director Vladimir Jurowski. Gerald Finley makes his role debut as Hans Sachs, with Anna Gabler as Eva. This will fulfil the dream of Glyndebourne’s founder, John Christie, who himself performed the role of Sixtus Beckmesser in a concert performance of Scene 1 Act III in the Glyndebourne Organ Room in 1928.

All at Glyndebourne are very sad to hear of the death of Sir Charles Mackerras, who was conducting Così fan tutte during the Festival only last month. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.  In his final interview with James Whitbourn, Sir Charles speaks about his career, conducting Mozart and in particular Così fan tutte.

Three performances of Stravinsky’s short operas Renard and Mavra will take place at Glyndebourne on 24, 26 & 27 August 2010. Supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation, this opera double bill will feature Anthony Gregory, one of Glyndebourne’s new Jerwood Young Artists, and members of The Glyndebourne Chorus. The operas are directed by Frederic Wake-Walker and conducted by Leo McFall with the Britten Sinfonia.
