Glyndebourne has today launched its first national art competition inviting talented and aspiring young artists from across the UK to design the cover of its 2013 Tour Programme. The winning artist will see their artwork grace the cover of 10,000 copies of the Glyndebourne Tour Programme and be exhibited at Glyndebourne and participating gallery spaces this autumn.

As the 100-piece collection prepares to be installed, Glyndebourne is proud to announce the 15 artists showing paintings, sculpture and photography; inspired by Glyndebourne’s music, history and landscape to create work exclusively for the 2013 Festival exhibition.

When the 2013 Glyndebourne Festival opens on May 18 the seminal anniversaries of Verdi and Britten will be celebrated on stage, on screen and online.  For the first time in Glyndebourne’s history, all six Festival productions (in a combination of live and recorded live transmissions) will be streamed into cinemas and online, cementing Glyndebourne’s longstanding commitment to using digital developments to bring the art form to new audiences.

Laurent Pelly’s Ravel double bill, which premiered at Glyndebourne Festival 2012, has been awarded the Best New Opera Production prize in the whatsonstage.com annual opera poll. In its second year the whatsonstage.com Opera Poll saw fierce voting from over 1000 members of the general public and opera aficionados.

Glyndebourne starts its Britten centenary celebrations by releasing an audio recording of its 2010 production of Billy Budd on the Glyndebourne label.

Almost one year on from the launch of the Glyndebourne wind turbine, over 150 young people from across Sussex will perform at the opera house in a gala concert dedicated to exploring nature, nurture and the environment. ‘Till the summer comes again’ takes place on the main stage at Glyndebourne on Sunday 9 December.
