A major new production staged at Glyndebourne and performed by artists with learning disabilities will premiere on Glyndebourne’s main stage on 1st April 2012.
‘Gareth Malone Goes to Glyndebourne’ wins the 2011 International Emmy Award for Best Arts Programme. Congratulations go to Twenty Twenty Television, the BBC, Gareth Malone and, of course, all the wonderful cast and musicians who took part in Knight Crew, Glyndebourne’s largest outreach project yet, which culminated in three performances from 4 - 6 March 2010. Gareth’s journey, from auditioning the young chorus through to the final performances at Glyndebourne, was filmed by the BBC as a three-part documentary, which was first broadcast on BBC2 in June 2010.
Glyndebourne has announced the appointment of UK-based composer Luke Styles as its new Young Composer in Residence.
Styles, aged 28, has been selected from 68 applicants and a strong final shortlist of seven candidates. He takes up the appointment in September 2011 for two years, with an option for a third year.
Following the success of Knight Crew in 2010, we have now commissioned Orlando Gough (composer), Stephen Plaice (librettist) and Susannah Waters (director) to devise and create our next large-scale community opera, Imago, an opera which explores ageing in a digital world. Imago will have its world premiere at Glyndebourne in March 2013, and will include up to 70 people aged 9-90 from our local community.
Opera houses across the country open their doors for a weekend of events to celebrate European Opera Days
UK opera companies are joining forces with 100 opera houses in 22 countries to present a weekend of activities to celebrate European Opera Days.
Taking place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th May 2010, European Opera Days is coordinated by Opera Europa, the European organisation for professional opera companies and festivals, and RESEO, the European Network for Opera and Dance Education.

Over three thousand students from local schools will see a new adaptation of Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Glyndebourne opera house later this month.
Knight Crew is the latest initiative from Glyndebourne Education placing youth and the community centre stage in a new commission from Glyndebourne’s first composer-in-residence Julian Philips. With Gareth Malone joining the production team at Glyndebourne to take on the role of chorus master on his first opera, BBC Two’s Gareth goes to Glyndebourne will follow the project from its early stages through to the March performances.
This autumn, Glyndebourne on Tour will give performances of The Magic Flute, Hänsel und Gretel and Carmen especially for schools and colleges. This education initiative gives 3,500 students from across the south east and further afield the opportunity to enjoy professional opera. Glyndebourne is the only opera company outside of London to present fully-staged opera performances exclusively for young people.

PhotOperative is the latest project from Glyndebourne Education, in partnership with Photoworks, a visual arts organisation in Brighton. As part of this project, and together with the De la Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea, Glyndebourne and Photoworks have co-commissioned Auditorium, a film and sound installation, which brings together the creative talents of artist Sophy Rickett and composer Ed Hughes to develop a new piece of exciting visual art.
