The grandeur and majesty of the Baroque era will be celebrated by cultural organisations throughout the UK in 2009, inspired by the anniversaries of two great Baroque composers. 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of George Frideric Handel’s death (1685-1759) and the 350th anniversary of Henry Purcell’s birth (1659-1695). The opulent Baroque style will be captured by Baroque ’09, a year of Baroque music and culture with an exciting programme of concerts, operas and exhibitions. BBC Radio 3 and the BBC Proms will feature Baroque music throughout the year.

New releases on The Glyndebourne Label Glyndebourne is proud to announce the next two recordings to be released on its independent CD label: Fidelio conducted by Mark Elder from the 2006 Festival and Pelléas et Mélisande conducted by Vittorio Gui from the 1963 Festival.

New partnership between Glyndebourne and Telegraph TV is announced Telegraph TV, Glyndebourne and More2Screen today announce a partnership that will enable Glyndebourne content to be streamed on telegraph.co.uk, and will give the Telegraph audience access to an exclusive promotional offer for Glyndebourne's cinema season, Glyndebourne on Screen.

This autumn, Glyndebourne on Tour will give performances of The Magic Flute, Hänsel und Gretel and Carmen especially for schools and colleges. This education initiative gives 3,500 students from across the south east and further afield the opportunity to enjoy professional opera. Glyndebourne is the only opera company outside of London to present fully-staged opera performances exclusively for young people.  "...The most imaginative opera-education department in the country."

To mark its 40th year, Glyndebourne presents three productions for its 2008 touring programme. Booking now open. Led by Music Director Robin Ticciati, who is fast establishing himself as an exciting conducting talent both here and abroad, Glyndebourne On Tour’s 2008 repertoire incorporates both new and familiar productions. Mozart’s The Magic Flute will be conducted by Douglas Boyd. Making his Glyndebourne debut with the Tour, he is already known to UK audiences through his performances with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Manchester Camerata.

2008 promises to be another ambitious year for Glyndebourne 2008 promises to be another ambitious year for Glyndebourne with a huge variety of work taking place, not least three new productions in the Festival, of which one is a new work commissioned jointly by Glyndebourne and the BBC.  New media is also playing an expanding role in Glyndebourne’s future, with the first releases on a new CD label, new DVD recordings, and a growing network of distributors negotiating to screen Glyndebourne’s productions in cinemas.

Glyndebourne is offering local people the chance to go behind the scenes of an international opera house. Now in its second year, the Glyndebourne Open Day offers children and adults alike the chance to discover the secrets behind producing an opera. The action-packed event, which is completely free of charge, will run from 10.30am until 4.00pm on Saturday 15 March. For the first time, bookings will be taken online exclusively, via the Glyndebourne website.
