‘Glyndebourne’s 2010 season brings Britten’s Billy Budd to the Festival for the first time and also marks the operatic debut of director, Michael Grandage, the highly acclaimed Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse. Following the huge success of last summer’s The Fairy Queen, Jonathan Kent returns to direct a new production of Don Giovanni, conducted by Music Director Vladimir Jurowski.

Glyndebourne on Tour booking is open — Czech maestro Jakub Hrŭša’s first season as Music Director  Now in its 42nd year, Glyndebourne on Tour (GOT) presents three productions for its 2010 touring programme. Booking is now open. Incorporating both new and familiar productions, GOT is led by Czech conductor Jakub Hrŭša in the first year of his tenure as Music Director.

On Sunday 18th April, a performance of Mozart’s Requiem will be conducted by American James Gaffigan accompanied with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Soloists include Jean Mark Ainsley, Sally Matthews, Barbara Senator and Matthew Rose, who are also all performing in this year’s Glyndebourne Festival. The proceeds of the concert will be divided equally between two local charities; Leo House at Home and the Lewes Railway Land Wildlife Trust’s Linklater Pavilion Project.

Highlights of 2010 at Glyndebourne Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse, Michael Grandage will make his opera debut directing the new production of Billy Budd which will open the 2010 Festival. Grandage’s debut will mark a continuing tradition of theatre directors making opera debuts at Glyndebourne from Trevor Nunn in 1982 with Idomeneo to Melly Still with Rusalka in 2009.

Glyndebourne and Sky Arts today announced a new partnership, which will see Sky Arts become the official UK broadcast partner of Glyndebourne for 2009. The collaboration will centre on an exclusive live high definition broadcast from Glyndebourne of L’elisir d’amore on Sky Arts on Saturday 15th August. This live broadcast will be the culmination of a month of Saturday night programming of Glyndebourne operas on Sky Arts 2 and Sky Arts 2 HD.

A new book called Glyndebourne: A Visual History – edited by Brigitte Lardinois, Val Williams, with text by Sir George Christie has been published by Glyndebourne Publishing. This pictorial history of Glyndebourne is published to mark the 75th anniversary of the internationally renowned opera house. A remarkable collection of over 450 photographs, the book not only sumptuously illustrates and showcases the work of Glyndebourne, but is also accompanied by personal anecdotal text written by Sir George Christie.
