Music from Glyndebourne’s independent record label now available on the iTunes Store®
The full back catalogue of Glyndebourne’s award-winning independent record label is now available for digital download for the very first time, exclusively on the iTunes Store. All eighteen Glyndebourne label releases are available by visiting www.iTunes.com/glyndebourne.
The selection ranges from archive gems to more recent live recordings from the renowned Glyndebourne Festival. They include a best-selling release of the rapturously received 2009 production of Dvořák’s Rusalka and a recording of Peter Sellar’s landmark staging of Theodora from 1994 (pictured above).
To mark the new phase in the label’s growth, Glyndebourne has created its first ever compilation inspired by its long association with Mozart; a collection of tracks from recordings from Cosi fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro.
Plans for the future of Glyndebourne on iTunes will see the Glyndebourne “Room” expand to include unique digital content such as podcasts and videos designed to offer expert insight into Glyndebourne opera and enhance the experience for iTunes customers.
The Glyndebourne label launched in 2008 and is just one of the digital innovations Glyndebourne is exploring in order to ensure its opera can be enjoyed by a new and wider audience. Making the label available to buy on iTunes significantly furthers this aim and is the biggest development in the label’s five-year history.
David Pickard, General Director of Glyndebourne, said:
“The Glyndebourne label is a key part of our efforts to make opera accessible to as many people as possible and launching on iTunes is a fantastic opportunity to broaden our reach still further. The foresight of John Barnes, who initiated the practice of recording every performance of every Glyndebourne opera, has gifted us with a back-catalogue of recordings of some of the best opera of the last fifty years which we are committed to sharing as widely as possible.”
