Glyndebourne summer cinema line-up biggest yet
Glyndebourne Festival has announced its biggest cinema programme yet with more operas screening to more people, in more cinemas than ever before.
Five of the operas in the 2012 Festival, including all three of this year’s new productions, will be shown in over 50 cinemas across the UK in partnership with Picturehouse Entertainment.
With ticket prices starting at £13, cinema screenings are an affordable and convenient way for people to experience opera. In 2007 Glyndebourne broke new ground when it became the first UK opera house to show its work in cinemas. Since then Glyndebourne has continued to expand its cinema offering in order to make opera more accessible to more people.
David Pickard, General Director of Glyndebourne said:
“Glyndebourne wants to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy opera because we believe it can be a truly transformative experience. We were the first opera house in the country to take our work in to cinemas and it’s been a great success. Not everyone can come to Glyndebourne but we can try and get Glyndebourne to them, and this is just one way in which we do that. With all our digital developments, we hope to make Glyndebourne’s work open to opera lovers at anytime, anywhere in the world”.
Marc Allenby, Head of Commercial Development at Picturehouse Entertainment, said:
“It’s a pleasure to be working with Glyndebourne for the third consecutive year. This feels like the strongest programme yet and we look forward to helping Glyndebourne reach the widest possible audience.”
Tickets for cinema screenings of the 78th Glyndebourne Festival go on general sale on Tuesday 3 April 2012. One week priority booking is available for Glyndebourne and Picturehouse members from Tuesday 27 March 2012. To book, visit picturehouses.co.uk or telephone your local cinema.
