New Generation Programme

Tonight’s streaming of Le nozze di Figaro is supported by Glyndebourne’s New Generation Programme.  Each year this support plays a vital part in funding the filming of Glyndebourne operas, which can then be shown in cinemas and streamed online. In 2012, six of our operas will be available to watch online for free as part of the New Generation Programme.

The New Generation Programme was launched in 2009 by Gus Christie, as part of Glyndebourne’s 75th anniversary celebrations, with the aim to make Glyndebourne’s future as inspiring as its past. The New Generation Programme enables us to invest in a sustainable programme of audience and artist development initiatives each year.

In addition to filming and streaming our productions, other New Generation Programme projects in 2012 include:

  • Supporting exceptionally talented singers at an early stage of their career through the Jerwood Chorus Development Scheme, the Glyndebourne Academy and the Glyndebourne Youth Opera
  • Providing development opportunities for Luke Styles, Glyndebourne’s Young Composer in Residence
  • Offering subsidised tickets to Glyndebourne performances for young audiences through Glyndebourne <30 as well as offering dedicated Performances for Schools
  • Commissioning and producing Glyndebourne’s next large-scale community opera, Imago, following on from the success of Knight Crew in 2010

The New Generation Programme can only continue to deliver these initiatives thanks to the private support of individuals and organisations and Glyndebourne is extremely grateful for any donations we receive towards this work.
