My husband and I went to Glynbourne for the first time last night. L'Elisir D'Amore was the perfect summer evening opera (in spite of chilly damp weather). The performance was witty and vibrant and was a great introduction to the institution that is Glynbourne. Leonardo Capalbo made a wonderful Glynbourne debut. I managed to obtain box tickets within spitting distance of the stage - even if we couldn't see the subtitles they were good value for money. Glynbourne needn't be elitist but it helps if you make a note of the day that the tickets are release and look online promptly!
