Ladies Senior Cutter
12 month fixed term contract from October 2014
We have a vacancy for a Senior Cutter in our Ladies department for a 12 month fixed term contract commencing October 2014.
This is a rare opportunity to work with internationally renowned costume designers in a production costume department uniquely situated in rural Sussex.
You should have significant experience at a senior level in cutting both period and modern garments and managing a workroom.
In addition, you will have excellent organisational skills, exceptionally high production standards and the commitment and ability to train and develop our skilled and talented staff.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Discuss with designers the cutting requirements for productions, researching the style and cut of any period and advising on the choice and quantities of materials as required
To consult with the Head of Costume on production needs and discuss with them any issues arising out of the production process
Plan workload for both new productions and revivals advising the Head of Costume on staffing requirements and out work
Cut and fit costumes for new productions in both festival and tour . Re-cut and refit costumes as required for revivals.
Manage production in workroom and supervise staff to ensure they are meeting deadline for fittings, dress rehearsals and planned completion dates, alerting the Head of Costume of any labour or material over runs.
Instruct staff in workroom procedures and production methods.
Appraise permanent and seasonal staff and contribute to the arrangement of learning and development activities
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Costume /Fashion
Significant experience at a senior level in a Costume production workroom to include cutting and constructing period and modern garments and alterations to existing costumes
Experience of staff supervision to include training and developing to a senior skill level
Good interpersonal and communications skills
Strong leadership skills
Ability to understand and communicate in everyday written and spoken English, although language tuition can be provided
Salary and Benefits
We can offer an attractive salary dependent on experience.
The contractual hours of work are 39 per week however you will be required to work additional hours to meet the demands of the role in the build-up to the Festival and Tour.
We offer a minimum of 33 days / 6.6 weeks holiday per year including public holidays.
