Glyndebourne runs a comprehensive programme of work experience placements and applicants from all backgrounds with varying levels of practical experience will be considered.
Unfortunately we cannot accept applications from under 16s. Places in our production or making departments will only be offered to those with relevant technical experience. Due to the a high demand for places not all applications will be successful.
We are happy to meet any access needs that we reasonably can; this may be in partnership with any existing arrangements in place (i.e. through school/college).
Administrative work experience – applications now open for 2018
In 2018 we will provide ten week-long placements for administrative work experience at Glyndebourne. A work experience week at Glyndebourne offers local young people (age 16+ and still at school or college) the invaluable opportunity to see an internationally renowned opera company at work. Over the course of five days you will have the opportunity to experience and work in a variety of different departments, learn about the many and varied jobs people do at Glyndebourne and (when possible) watch a rehearsal or performance.
Placement dates are listed below. As part of your application please give your choice of dates in order of preference. Please try to give as many dates as possible. Working hours are Monday–Friday, 10.00am to 5.00pm, with one hour for lunch.

Costume department work experience
The Costume department will announce their 2018 work experience offer on this page shortly.
These two-week long placements are in the production workroom with skilled cutters, tailors and costume-makers. Candidates will see how costumes are stored and maintained during the Festival and Touring seasons and how production information is recorded for future revivals.
It is preferred that candidates for Costume work experience are a second or third year student on a degree or diploma course which centres on costume construction and/or tailoring as this is of most benefit to both parties. They should have above average sewing skills and a sound basic knowledge of period and modern clothing construction and terminology.
Glyndebourne’s Stage Management and Props departments are not currently accepting any new applications for work experience placements.
‘I found the week very enjoyable and also interesting as I was able to explore the different departments that create Glyndebourne and learn about the skills needed for all of them.’
