Work experience

Glyndebourne runs a comprehensive programme of work experience placements, and applicants from all backgrounds and with varying levels of practical experience will be considered.

We are happy to meet any access needs that we reasonably can. For some we may need to do this in partnership with others (school/college, etc).

Unfortunately we cannot place applicants who are under 16, and only those with relevant and thorough technical experience will be placed in our production or making departments.

There is a high demand for places and not all applications will be successful.

Applications now closed for 2017

Administrative work experience

Each year we provide eight week-long slots for administrative work experience at Glyndebourne – we have now filled all the places for 2017. Please check back in September 2017 for details of the 2018 programme.

These are for local young people (within a 25-mile radius of Glyndebourne) aged 16+ who are still at school or college. You can download the application form below.

The deadline for applications was 31 January 2017

If you have any questions, please contact Kate Simner at education@glyndebourne.com

Costume department work experience

The Costume department have now filled all placements for 2017.

The two-week long placements are in the production workroom with skilled cutters, tailors and costume makers. Candidates will see how costumes are stored and maintained during the Festival and Touring seasons, and how production information is recorded for future revivals.

It is preferred that candidates for Costume work experience are a second or third year student on a degree or diploma course which centres on costume construction and/or tailoring as this is of most benefit to both parties. They should have above average sewing skills and a sound basic knowledge of period and modern clothing construction and terminology.

Glyndebourne’s Stage Management and Props departments are not currently accepting any new applications for work experience placements.

‘I found the week very enjoyable and also interesting as I was able to explore the different departments that create Glyndebourne and learn about the skills needed for all of them.’
