The Turn of the Screw
Based on Henry James' novella of the same name The Turn of the Screw, Britten's chamber opera, was composed 1954, and was immediately acknowledged as the most refined dramatic music piece of its time. The ghost story centers on the inter-play between innocence and corruption and throughout the piece.
Conducted by Edward Gardner, the Governess is sung by Camilla Tilling with William Burden singing Prologue/Peter Quint and Emma Bell singing Miss Jessel. Anne-Marie Owens (Mrs Grose) and the children Flora (Joanna Songi) and Miles (Christopher Sladdin) reprised their 2006 performances.
