Hamlet – the illustrated story
The King of Denmark is dead. His widow, Gertrude has married his brother, Claudius. The dead King’s ghost appears to his son, Prince Hamlet, saying that he was murdered by Claudius. The ghost asks Hamlet to avenge him.
Disturbed by the visions, Hamlet becomes deeply troubled and appears to descend into madness. He rejects his soulmate and lover, Ophelia.
Desperate to uncover the truth, Hamlet arranges for a group of players to reenact his father’s murder. Claudius’s furious reaction convinces Hamlet of his uncle’s guilt.
Hamlet chastises his mother for marrying Claudius. Discovering Ophelia’s father, Polonius, spying on them, Hamlet kills him. Laertes, Polonius’s son, returns to avenge his father’s death and he and Claudius conspire to kill Hamlet.
Ophelia is driven mad by Hamlet’s rejection and the death of her father. Later she is discovered drowned in a stream. Her death further provokes Laertes in his vendetta against Hamlet.
Laertes challenges Hamlet to a duel. Hamlet accepts the challenge. Many deaths ensue…
